401(k) Plan

Overview

Your Williams-Sonoma, Inc. 401(k) Plan, administered by Charles Schwab, is designed to help you save for retirement.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Decide how much to contribute.

If you’re 21 or older, you’re eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan any time after your hire date. There is no special enrollment window. The money you elect to contribute is taken out of your account each paycheck and deposited into your 401(k) account. You can contribute between 1% and 75% of your eligible pay, up to IRS annual limits.

  2. 2

Contribute to get the WSI match.

WSI will match $.50 for every dollar you contribute up to 6%, for a total matching contribution of 3%. Save at least 6% to get the full 3% matching contribution.

  3. 3

    Choose your investments.

You can choose from a wide variety of investments that work best for your age, risk tolerance and how long you have until you retire.

  4. 4

    Choose a beneficiary!

Make sure you choose a beneficiary for your 401(k) Plan. The person you select will receive the funds in your account if you die.

  5. 5

    Make changes when needed.

You can change your contribution rate or investments anytime during the year.

Types of Contributions

PRE-TAX CONTRIBUTIONS

These are deducted from your paycheck before income taxes are withheld. You pay taxes on these contributions and earnings when you withdraw the money from the Plan.

AFTER-TAX (ROTH) CONTRIBUTIONS

These are deducted from your paycheck after income taxes are withheld. You will not pay taxes again on these contributions or on the earnings if you receive the money as a qualified distribution.*

* A qualified distribution means you have your Roth account open for at least five years, and you take your distribution after age 59½ or due to death or disability.

CATCH-UP CONTRIBUTIONS

If you will be age 50 or older in 2026, these contributions help you save more than the regular annual IRS limits as you near retirement.

If you will be age 60-63 in 2026, you have the ability to save an even higher amount than those 50-59 or 64+.

Per the SECURE 2.0 Act, effective January 1, 2026, catch-up contributions must be designated as Roth if you earned over a set threshold in FICA wages for the prior calendar year.

 ROLLOVER CONTRIBUTIONS

These are contributions that you move from a retirement plan account with a prior employer or a rollover IRA to the WSI 401(k) Plan. They allow you to keep all of your retirement savings in one place and avoid paying tax penalties.

Savings Basics

How Much Can You Save?

  • If you will be younger than age 50 in 2026, your savings limit is $24,500 (combined pre-tax and Roth after-tax limit).
  • If you will be age 50–59 or age 64 or older, you can save an additional $8,000, for a total contribution limit of $32,500.
  • If you will be age 60–63, you can save an additional $11,250 for a total contribution of $35,750.

Get Paid to Save

WSI matches your contributions $.50 for every dollar you contribute up to 6%, for a total matching contribution of 3%. Save at least 6% to get the full 3% matching contribution.

The company matches both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions, and the match is paid on a pre-tax basis.

Match Details

  • When you’re eligible for the match:  You’re eligible after one year of service. Part-time, casual, seasonal and temporary associates must also have worked 1,000 hours during their first year of service or any calendar year after that.
  • Match timing: 401(k) contributions will be matched starting on the first day of each calendar quarter (January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1) after you complete one year of service. The match is deposited twice a year: in August for your contributions made January 1–June 30 and in February of the following year for contributions made July 1–December 31. You must be employed on the last day of each matching period to receive the match.
  • When you’re vested in company matching contributions: You become 100% vested in (you own) company matching contributions after one year of service.

Save More the Easy Way

With Annual Savings Adjustments, you can schedule slow and steady increases to your contribution rate. You decide when you want the increases to happen. For example, you might decide to save an additional 1% every January 1 until you’re saving 15% of your pay.
